Hi!
First of all, thank you for making this enormous body of quality code available for my review and study.
Even if I don't end up using it directly, I am certain that I will learn great things by studying your technique.
Thank you Very Much!
My question concerns licensing. The DPL clearly defines how I should behave if I wish to contribute to DotShoppingCart and/or redistribute its code and/or binaries, either as-is or as part of a modified/augmented work. But what if I just want to use it for my own business?
- I have a need for a reseller/salesman relationship management system with content management and ecommerce capabilities. I can already tell that I can get where I want to go by starting with your code and heavily reworking the user/security role sections, then adding some reports and some new maintenance screens. I would also rewrite parts of the payment processing to work with my preferred credit card gateway.
- The resulting project would then be used exclusively by my company to help manage my (hopefully growing) reseller network.
- I would happily display the "DotShoppingCart" logo and/or "DotShoppingCart Powered" logo throughout the system.
- The modified source would not be appropriate for re-contribution into the project (as it is very divergent from your product's primary market) and quite honestly because I don't want to spend time appropriately documenting it or creating install procedures/sql modification scripts. I will happily share my modified source with you if you like, but republication is not a consideration for this project.
So my question is...
Are my plans within my legal rights under your DPL?
I was unable to find a direct reference to "non-contributor modifications" or "modification without redistribution", so I am unclear as to whether it is allowed.
Thank you again for making your code available for use and review.
I look forward to your reply.
