Poor Web Design
Hello,

I really want to purchase this product for my furniture store in Ireland.

My only issue is that I really am not at all impressed with the quality of the websites shown in your demos.

My website, www.rightprice.ie which I created is no great shakes and needs improvement but I just feel the demos fail to show the real potential of your product.

Do you have any other live websites that look more professional that show the true potential of this product that you offer?

Regards

Gavin

Re: Poor Web Design
Did you check the live sites from the showcase? Also our own site www.dotshoppingcart.com is completely powered by the software.

Re: Poor Web Design
The default architecture should be separating the Layout and Markup from the content. So your wish shouldn't be a problem...

Re: Poor Web Design
Hi all,

I am also in Gavin's situation.
The site we are planning to build must have very professional look and feel with combination of CSS, JQuery and probably Silverlight.
It seems to me that the DotShoppingCart layout is not easy to customize for digital product e-commerce site.
We are thinking about purchasing a DotShoppingCart suite but can you tell me if there are some more materials for developers that are indepth in the system development and layout customization in particular.

Thanks.
Sam.

You can check some of our live customer sites from the showcase. There are two new screencasts about theme and page editor. You can find some customizations from our blog. DotShoppingCart is a software. You can do whatever you want. It's only limited by your imagination and programing skills. The goal of DotShoppingCart is to build a foundation for eCommerce and CMS. It also create out of box a basic set of themes which non-programming people can just use.

Re: Poor Web Design
Hi,

Thanks for the reply.
I did take a look at the showcase and they are not very good web design to be honest.
Because the site we are planning must have a very nice look and feel in term of web design, so we are taking very careful approach to valueate CMS products. Can you point out some more step-by-step documents which teach developers to create a completely new look and feel that dont reuse any Dotshoppingcart UI artifacts.

Thanks.
Sam.

Re: Poor Web Design
Well, you don't have to use DotShoppingCart page editor if you don't like it. You can create your own master page and  asp.net page or even Silverlight. Add reference to our business components and call into the business components. This is just like any other asp.net web application. Any ASP.NET developer should know how to do this. If you can show me a demo page to your like, I will show you how it can be done.

Re: Poor Web Design
We do want to use the page editor and all the CMS features provided by DotShoppingCart, we just want to use our own menu, header, footer, CSS design and images.
So basically, we would like to use all normal web design stuff but still are facilitated with your CMS feature such as page editor, page creation with our template, content management and so on. Yes, if the development process as such you described above, that will be nice.
Our pilot project looks very similar to Telerik design.

Can you show me how it can be done ?

Thanks.
Sam.

Re: Poor Web Design
Telerik design looks very similar to our legacy theme. You can take a look at one of our featured sites www.elizabethseuropeanboutique.com. Basically you can get away with just using your own css. You don't even need to add code. Please check out "Introduction to DotShoppingCart Theme" screen cast which should tell you how to apply customized css. I guess I don't need to cover the basic of CSS in this thread. If you would like to know implementing a specific UI element in the Telerik design, please point me to the UI element and I will demo it for you in detail.

Re: Poor Web Design
Thanks a lot for the Introduction Theme tutorial. Its making more sense for us now.
If you  show me how to add Telerik alike menu to DSC with CMS features on it, that will be great !

Also, is it true that the commercial suite package has different looks, yet more features in Page Editor than the Community version. I watched the Demo Video: Page Editor In Depth and noticed that.

Re: Poor Web Design
Sure, I will create a blog entry to show you how to implement Telerik alik menu when I have time.

Yes, DotShoppingCart Suite is using the completely rewritten JQuery based page editor and a lot of pre-built blocks. Check the edition comparision.
