I was trying to modify the location of the upper login menu and deleted the top login menu and put a new one using an html box. is there a way to make the logout work again or what should it look like.
Or is there a way once it is deleted to re-add the uppermenu div

The position of upper login menu is controlled by css class uppermenu. You can update the css class via Admin > Site > Templates > Default.css.
Yes, you can choose Stardard Blocks -> Login Menu to re-add it.
